The Story

Picture yourself as an entity of light and color, and imagine that how you illuminate or shade your world alters its very fabric. Welcome to Supersensory, a realm beyond the senses. It is a world defined not by the physical characteristics to which we are accustomed such as density and charge, but rather by the interplay between emotions. In Supersensory, color and emotion are one and the same.

You and your partner take the roles of Lumen and Shade, the embodiments of light and darkness. Inexorably tied and eternally in opposition, these archetypes cannot exist without one another. It is on this bond that we set our scene.

In the beginning, you see, darkness was the only light. From every corner of the universe the lights of dying stars flooded the sensory. Shade looked on with patience, knowing that each pinprick would flash with glorious illumination before fading. As a light body, Shade knew these events were long in the past, separated by millions of years from the present. Yet there stood Lumen, a mere pittance the distance and just as luminous. Shade resolved to strike up a conversation.

“Do you see it?” asked Shade.
“I see nothing.” replied Lumen.
“It is our universe,” said Shade. “It fills us with glorious purpose. It informs our mortality.”
“Nonsense,” said Lumen. “We are eternal!”
And Shade knew that Lumen’s falsity had the ring of truth. For every speck that had burst another multitude had taken its place. “Let’s make us a place!” said Shade.

It began in darkness, for that is the way of things.

The Technology

WARE LogoPlayers experiencing Supersensory via W/ARE can take advantage of Spectrumental’s Adaptive Limbic Heuristics (ALH). Using ALH, Supersensory can procedurally tailor the dialog and pacing such that the players’ experience segues directly from their waking life. Other W/ARE titles attempt to "shoehorn" the player into whatever emotional context the game demands, leading to sim sickness and worse. Supersensory is immune to this phenomenon with the use of ALH.

The spectrum of human emotion provides a rich tapestry on which to craft a story, and all Spectrumental Games feature this fundamental design principle: waking leads to dreaming leads to waking.
